Running Update

Friday, 10th August, 2007

A good first week – I ran Monday through Thursday nights. Kept it low – about 15 minutes the first three nights, then about 20 last night. I want to build slowly so that I don’t get tendonitus again this time. But, it felt good!

Running Again

Monday, 6th August, 2007

Well, I started running again tonight. This time, I think I will stick with it for a while. It wasn’t one of those guilty evenings I felt like I needed to do it – I got it in my head that I need to make the change. Running if the most efficient way to get back into shape and lose weight - it worked for me the first time (50lbs in a fairly short amount of time), and I know it will again. It’s not the weight that’s so bad (I’m around 190-193 now, and I’ve been higher when Tyler was born), but that I know I’ve also lost muscle mass, so the weight I have regained is all bad weight. I feel heavier and less comfortable. But even that’s not the worst of it.

The kicker is a little game my 13 month old daughter made up all by herself to play with me. If I’m lying down, she will lift up my shirt, rub my stomach, and make this noise (click the image):

So, I’m going to stick with this. To re-enforce the commitment, I went and bought a pair of running shoes I really liked that are cushioned and breathe well. Just like the first time, these shoes will be for running only (so if you want to wear them…).
Goal will be to start at around 15 minutes, and work up to 30 minutes a night, five nights a week. Perhaps swapping bike rides instead, when I get the opportunity. I will get myself back to 175lb before Thanksgiving.
